Storage Tips & Tricks
Storage Solutions For The Greater Napanee Area
Whatever your reasons, we want you to walk away from your storage unit worry-free. With a little planning and the use of some helpful tips and tricks, this is completely possible.
Nasty Pests Stay Away
We maintain a system of traps for common rodents but, don’t let those creepy crawly insects and spiders take away your peace of mind. If left alone, they can present some nasty damage to fabric and upholstery. For added protection place some dryer sheets in the corners of your unit as well as boxes, drawers, and furniture. Remember to replace them monthly to ward of the pests and keep your unit and items smelling oh so fresh!
Moisture Be Gone
Keep it away. Few things will damage your possession as much as humidity and the harmful mold and mildew it brings along. To keep your possessions safe and dry lay down some wooden pallets to act as a barrier from the moisture-wicking concrete floor. Invest in a few charcoal packets found at your local hardware store (or make your own). Consider storing valuables in plastic totes rather than cardboard boxes.
Prevent Dirt and Rust
Use furniture and mattress covers as much as possible. Treat any leather you are storing. If you are storing appliances that use water, be sure they are free of any traces and wipe them dry. Adding an extra coat of furniture polish and regressing bicycle chains can go along way to protecting and keeping your possessions in good working order.
Maximize Your Space
Pack your items wisely and label your boxes. Use bubble wrap with your valuables. When it comes time to store your items, make the best use of the space you have rented. Disassemble the furniture you can; carefully placing the hardware in clear zip bags taped to the corresponding pieces. Stack to the ceiling according to weight and size, using all space available such as dresser drawers and bookshelves. Vacuum seal clothing bags, pillows, and blankets.
Never Forget
You will need to access your property at some point so, be sure to create an aisle for easy access to your items. Finally, be sure to make an inventory of the items stored. Should anything ever happen it is always prudent to have pictures of your valuables and any serial or model numbers associated in a file close at hand.
